Talk to your hiking group where the phone shows no bars

SpeakMic Offline turns the group's Android phones into walkie-talkies that connect directly to each other — no mobile network, no internet, no radios to carry. The guide can also broadcast to the whole group.

How it works

Install before you set off

Everyone installs SpeakMic Offline on their Android phone while there's still internet.

Create a room at the trailhead

The guide creates a room and the group joins with its 6-digit code.

Press and talk on the trail

The phones relay the audio to each other, so the group can stretch out along the trail.

Why groups use SpeakMic Offline

Phone to phone, no network

WiFi Direct and Bluetooth between the phones themselves — no mobile signal needed at all.

Phones relay each other

Each phone passes the audio on, reaching about 250–350 m across the group without line of sight.

Walkie-talkie or broadcast

Everyone talks in turn (up to 20), or the guide talks to up to 30 listeners.

Lighter than a set of radios

Radios are the classic choice in the mountains, and with good reason: they reach further and their batteries last longer. SpeakMic Offline is the option for groups that don't have them — free, on the phones already in everyone's pocket.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work on iPhone?

No. SpeakMic Offline is Android only, and every phone in the group needs the app.

How far apart can we be?

A direct link reaches as far as WiFi Direct or Bluetooth do; with phones relaying for each other, a group spread over roughly 250–350 m stays connected.

Is it a safety device?

No. It doesn't replace an emergency beacon, a radio or calling emergency services — take what your route requires.

How much battery does it use?

More than a phone in standby, since the radio and audio stay on. Bring a power bank on longer hikes.
